"Subcommittee Assignments for the 111th Congress"

Click on the link and read about the responsibility of these subcommittees. Any one could be doing something for dairy other than holding hearings.

  1. No Senators from Wisconsin are on any of those assignments which makes it even tougher. If a picture is worth a thousand words I would say it will be very tough because the picture is all about vegetables. In fact the WIC program just recently received an increase of about $4 per partiicpant to purchase fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately the same program eliminated cheese late last year; cheese was let go because of the fat; however if you get 1 pound of cheese a month. That is 1/2 ounce per day. I bet more fat is added to the vegetables than the cheese contributes; meanwhile we are wondering why folks are not getting the nutrition they need to keep their bones healthy! I never read anything about that in any agricultural magazine. Supposedly there was no opposition from the dairy industry; do you think that it was just that the dairy industry was never informed?

  2. With a picture of vegetables and no Senators from Wisconsin on the committees most likely dairy will not even be considered. In fact a recent vote of one of these committees upped the dollars spent on vegetables for the WIC program which is shortly after cheese was eliminated from the food package because of the fat contribution of one pound of cheese a month per participant and with supposedly no opposition from the dairy industry I'm guessing helping out dairy is not the first thing on there minds.
